For the first time in the history of Ukraine, the Formula-1 Championship on water was held in the city of Vyshgorod (Kyiv region) from 29 -31 July, 2011.
The Vyshgorod event is referred to as the “Kyiv Region Grand Prix Ukraine H2011”, the so-called F1H20 Grand Prix of Ukraine1. The F1H20 World Powerboat Championship is the most spectacular, exciting, and thrilling watersport in the world. It was inaugurated in 1981, and is similar to F1 for cars with application of similar rules. Teams of different countries around the world compete in the Grand Prix, which is regulated by the Union Internationale Motornautique (UIM). Races are organized and held at selected locations around the world, based on the water conditions, infrastructures, public access, local hotel amenities and telecommunications facilities. This year (2011), Vyshgorod (Ukraine) was selected as one of the venues of the UIM F1H20 championship competitions.
The Vyshgorod competitions attracted a large gathering of fans. Stands were equipped with seats for spectators, and the quayside and surrounding hills were occupied by approximately 80 thousand spectators.
Teams from Italy, USA, United Arab Emirates, Portugal, Qatar, China, Sweden and other countries took part in the powerboat racing. The team from the United Arab Emirates emerged as the winner in the Vyshgorod competitions, having taken the first place. The second place was awarded to the team from China, while the third place went to the Italian Carella, who represented Qatar. To facilitate the holding of the competitions, company “ORION” provided the plastic module pontoons and mooring accessories for the docking of powerboats, which were used in the competitions.
